Symptoms of periposthitis mainly include redness, swelling and pain, itching and discomfort, increased secretions, difficulty urinating, and skin ulcers. Posthitis is usually caused by bacterial infection, fungal infection, allergic reaction, poor hygiene, excessive foreskin and other factors. It is recommended to seek medical treatment in time and carry out standardized treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
1. Redness, swelling and pain
In the early stages of periposthitis, redness and swelling of the foreskin and glans are common, accompanied by burning or stinging sensation. Possibly caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus infection, the local skin temperature increases and the pain worsens when touched. In the acute stage, topical antibiotics such as erythromycin ointment and mupirocin ointment can be used as directed by the doctor, while avoiding friction and irritation.
2. Itching and discomfort
Fungal periposthitis is often characterized by persistent itching, and white filmy discharge can be seen especially in cases of Candida albicans infection. Itching at night may worsen and affect sleep, and scratching may lead to secondary skin damage. The area needs to be kept dry and clean, and your doctor may recommend antifungal treatment with clotrimazole cream or miconazole nitrate cream.
3. Increased secretions
There is an accumulation of yellow-white purulent secretions between the inner plate of the foreskin and the glans, often accompanied by an odor. The inflammatory exudate produced by bacterial reproduction may form smegma, which may lead to foreskin adhesions in severe cases. After washing with warm water every day, you can rinse with boric acid lotion as directed by your doctor, and use oral medications such as levofloxacin tablets to control infection.
4. Difficulty urinating
Severe inflammation may lead to stenosis of the foreskin orifice, pain during urination, thin urine flow, and even urinary retention. Long-term repeated infections can cause fibrosis of the foreskin and cause pathological phimosis. Prompt medical treatment is required, and if necessary, foreskin dilation or circumcision can be used to relieve the obstruction.
5. Skin ulcers
Chronic foreskinitis may cause erosion or superficial ulcers, and there may be serous exudation from the wound surface. Posthitis in diabetic patients is more likely to develop into deep ulcers that heal slowly. Blood sugar control needs to be strengthened, and the doctor may prescribe Kangfuxin liquid wet compress to promote wound repair. In case of combined infection, cefaclor dispersible tablets and other drugs must be used in combination.
Daily care should be taken to clean the inside of the foreskin with warm water every day and avoid using irritating lotions. Choose breathable cotton underwear, change them frequently, and clean them before and after sex. People with excessive foreskin should wipe away residual urine after urinating and check the health of their foreskin regularly. When symptoms worsen or systemic reactions such as fever occur, you must seek medical attention immediately to check for complications.
